Giving Tuesday

Today is GIVING TUESDAY!!  I love this day!  Why can't every Tuesday be Giving Tuesday?  Hmmm...

Here's the scoop.  Today we are all encouraged to donate and make a difference in this world.  If you need a suggestion on how to do that, read below.

In Jan. 2011 I visited a little village in Ethiopia called Shanto (see pictures at the top of this blog!).  A ministry there called Friends of Orphans and Vulnerable Children is reaching out and helping 150 precious orphans and vulnerable children through education, nutrition and basic medical care.  I, through Children's Hope Chest, am the sponsorship coordinator for these precious children.  I am heading back to visit them next March and plan to head back to visit every year.  As a follower of Jesus I am striving to be obedient to James 1:27,

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

There are 2 ways YOU can be involved.

1) I need sponsors!  Currently 73 children are sponsored and 77 still need a sponsor.  This is a GREAT sponsorship program because you get ME, a personal sponsorship coordinator, who will send you personal e-mails, you can join our FB group and I take a team over every year to visit the children (you can come along!!!)

2) I am currently raising funds to provide a school uniform for all the children.  There are 80 new children in this program who are propbably wearing the only clothing they own.  It's hard to imagine but I saw it firsthand on my Jan. 2011 trip, if children in rural Ethiopia own more than 2 items of clothing they are blessed.  Providing a school uniform is SO important for these children.  It will mean a great deal to them.  The uniforms are $20 per child.

My goal on this GIVING TUESDAY is to raise the remaining $2,000 for the uniforms and to get 10 children sponsored.  BIG goal, YES, but I have a BIG God on my side!
