November 1, 2012 marks a very special day. It's a day I prayed for and feel SO blessed by how God answered my prayer.
You see, 6 months ago I learned that the US based non-profit that I was volunteering for was going to shut down. What was at stake was the funding for a program that was helping over 100 precious orphans and vulnerable children in Ethiopia.
I prayed and prayed that God would make a way for those children to continue to receive help. God intervened in a way that I didn't expect.
I sent out e-mail inquiries to a few organizations working in Ethiopia. One of them forwarded my e-mail on to an organization called Children's Hope Chest. I had never heard of Hope Chest and was surprised when they contacted me in early June. Long story short, I LOVE Hope Chest's model and they have been amazing to work with these past couple months. They took the summer to prayerfully evaluate the situation and in August I learned that they were going to help.
Their model is community to community. They partner with ministries in Ethiopia and connect them with communities here in the US. It's mostly churches but they also do Connect Communities (which can be an online community of people). It was a perfect fit for me and my sponsors. Also, Hope Chest asked me to stay on as a volunteer sponsorship coordinator and of course, I said YES!!!!!!!
Today, Nov. 1st, is the official launch day for the Shanto CarePoint (Shanto is the village where these precious children are living). The ministry in Shanto is called Friends of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (FOVC). I had the privilege of visiting FOVC in Jan. 2011. I am excited to continue working alongside them as they help these precious children.
Another exciting piece is that close to 80 new children were added to the program this fall. Which means I have lots of precious little friends who need a sponsor.
