It's a new year and I've been working on our 2013 budget. I'm really tightening up things and making big goals. Over the years we have always used credit cards. Now I know the best way to stick to a budget and save money is to use cash and an envelope system. However, that just doesn't fit our life. We love our cashback bonus and frequent flier miles and we are generally very disciplined and pay off our credit cards each month. I do struggle at times because of being busy and forget to keep track so I've come up with a new plan and I hope it works.
I'm a tactile person so I struggle with Excel spreadsheet and online credit card statements. I decided to kind of use a cash/envelope system. I'm tracking weekly, small goals help me, and I'm using a plastic coupon book with 7 sections and monopoly money!! Fun, right?! I'll be pulling money out everytime I charge on a credit card. I've calculated how much we can spend weekly, divided it by 7 days and put the appropriate amount in each day. I anticipate I may have to borrow ahead with groceries etc. but at the end of the week the hope is to have at least $1 left.
Let's hope nobody around here wants to play monopoly anytime soon :-)
