2012 Reflection

I spent time today reflecting on the past year and everything that God has taught me.  I can sum it up in one word, prayer.

One year ago, I had 25 children left on a sponsorship list and I prayed for sponsors.  In February, I reached 100% sponsorship and it felt great!  I loved knowing that all those precious orphaned & vulnerable children, whose pictures adorned my office wall, had paying sponsors.

In May, I learned that the US based non-profit I was volunteering for was going to shut down.  It meant that all those precious children were at risk of losing their funding.  I prayed and God answered my prayer in a way I did not expect.

During the spring and early summer I experienced one of my greatest trials.  I could have walked away but I knew it was not the right thing to do and I needed to pray & fight for these children.  Fight because Ephesians 6:12 tells me that,

"...our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."

It was a stressful and difficult time but I experienced James 1:2-5 like never before.  I found joy and great peace in the midst of a difficult trial and definitely grew closer in my relationship with Jesus.

In August, I got confirmation that God provided a solution and on November 1st I officially partnered with Children's Hope Chest to continue helping the same precious children.  Thank you Jesus!!

Since Children's Hope Chest stepped in, 80 more children have been added to the program, which is a huge blessing considering these are children who were not attending school and struggling to eat.  As of today, 68 still need sponsors and I bet you can guess what I am doing.  That's right, praying with confidence and the assurance that God will answer my prayer.

I am leaving March 16th for Ethiopia and I cannot wait to visit these precious children once again.  My prayer is that all 150 children at Shanto have sponsors.
