4 weeks ago today I started raising funds for the first capital project for the Shanto CarePoint. $3,000 needs to be raised for 150 children to receive a new school uniform.
I am thrilled that in 4 weeks $2115 (71%) has been raised!!! I am praying that this project is fully funded by early 2013. I realize that this is a time of the year when people are spending extra money on Christmas but I personally think it should be the time of the year that charitable giving is at it's highest (it might actually be, I've never researched that fact).
The Shanto CarePoint is run by FOVC and this is what their director had to say about the uniforms,
"Thank you Ingrid (indeed all of you involved) for donating school uniforms which are very much needed by all school going children but beyond their capacity to buy. Here in Ethiopia, particularly in our project areas, when little children have school uniforms they feel that they are equal with other school going children. And I thank you ones again for improving our little children's psycho-social status among their friends in school. Desalegn Daka, Director, FOVC"
These uniforms mean so much to these precious children. It gives them a much needed change of clothing and represents that they attend school, which is a privilege for an orphaned or vulnerable child.
