Extreme poverty exists in many parts of the world. When I hear a statistic like, "18,000 children will die today because of lack of food," I feel overwhelmed. I adequately feed my 3 boys everyday but how can I help feed millions? How can you help? The truth is, if we all work together we can make a difference.
The Horn of Africa, in particular Somalia, has been hit hard with drought for a few years. It has reached a point of crisis and millions of people are at risk of dying of starvation. In the early 1980's a famine hit this region and over 1 million people died in Ethiopia. In this famine the forecast is the same, millions will die without help. I am helping, how about you?
I decided to give a list of organizations who are helping in this crisis. My hope is that you feel comfortable donating to one of them. Even $10 makes a difference. As you donate PRAY over your donation. God will hear, protect that money and use it for HIS glory.
Feed My Starving Children is packaging 5 million meals to send to eastern Africa. They are raising additional funds to meet this need. 5 million is a goal not a ceiling. The more money they raise the more food they will send.
Also, Friends of Orphans and Vulnerable Children is a small NGO (non-profit) that I work with in Ethiopia. We are raising money to insure our children, their families and surrounding village are cared for during this food shortage.
Compassion International is also raising additional funds to help ensure their partnering churches and sponsor children's needs are met.
World Vision and Samaritan's Purse are raising funds to help with the refugee crisis in Kenya. 1,000 of refugees, fleeing from Somalia, are in need of immediate food and medical assistance.
Every dollar helps so give, TODAY!!
Hubby and I were discussing what we can do last night, but weren't sure where to start other than World Vision. Thank you for sharing all of these options!
