Boys are hard when they are little...

I have 3 boys.  They are typical which means loud, love their smells and make guns out of their PB&J's (thankfully not at school!)  My oldest 2 are 16 months apart and when they were little, oh my, I had my hands full!  My former pastor's wife, who had raised 2 boys and 2 girls, would always say to me,

"Boys are hard when they are little, much harder than girls BUT the tides will turn and in 10 years you will be glad you have boys."

The consensus was the same from my oldest brother and sister, who had raised their children.  I clung to those words when my boys were little.  Almost 10 years later, I am seeing that they were right and it is SO nice!  I am amazed at how much my oldest 2 have grown and matured.  They are still smelly and silly but compared to a few years ago...much easier.

We had our 3rd boy in 2006, he's 7 now and still a handful at times but definitely wanting to be just like his big brothers which encourages me.

As a mom, I have many moments where I wonder if I am doing this parenting thing right.  I've found when I read parenting articles I want to turn the clock back and start over, hindsight is 20/20!  However, there are moments when I clearly see that I am doing SOMETHING right.

A couple Sundays ago my oldest leaned over and whispered to me that he was VERY concerned about his 7 year old brother's inability to sit still, focus on the stage and listen in church.  I about fell off the pew.  Did this 12 year old son of mine have any idea how many Sundays he wiggled, whined and caused me to question everything I was doing as a parent?  No, he didn't but his comment made me realize I must be doing something right. Whew!

  1. Ingrid -I have been holding to the "promise" that it will get easier! My boys are 8, 6, 4, and 2. Without Maija (10) you would most likely find me in the loony bin!
